Big Month

July is always such a big month for us.  The month kicks off with Independence Day, which coincidentally is the week that John is annually rather stressed due to the wrap up of his company's sales year.  Right after this, we celebrate Sonja's birthday--those two weeks are pretty full and stressful.  Once the sales year is over and John's meetings are over, we squeeze in as much summer fun as we can and then we celebrate John's birthday.  That pretty much marks the end of July--the month just flies by!   But before I get too far ahead of myself, this post is about Sonja's birthday.  :-)
This year Sonja celebrates nine years.  Usually, we have to work around John's company schedule and we almost never celebrate on Sonja's day proper.  In recent years, she's kind of made a tradition of going to a baseball game with John, and though she thought about keeping that tradition here, the release of Jurassic World had her thinking that one year without baseball wasn't that bad and Sonja opted for a lunch out followed by a movie.  :-)
Sonja loves the buffalo wings (they are super yummy) at Buffalo's Cafe so that's where we went for her birthday lunch.  Knowing how much Riley loves dinosaurs, Sonja graciously chose him to accompany her on her birthday outing.  After filing our tummies, we headed to the theater where we had an action packed experience watching Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. We all enjoyed the movie quite a bit.

Nikolas helped me lighten my schedule a bit this year by making Sonja's birthday cake for me.  I gave him the recipe that Sonja chose and he created the cake.  He did a great job and it not just looked good but tasted really good too.  Sonja was pretty happy with her rocky road cake.  Nikolas even got fancy and created a nine in the road toppings.  Nice touch Nikolas!  :-)
Gifts followed cake and Sonja was showered with material tokens of love. She was pretty happy with all that she received and she ended the evening by trying on the Indian girl costume (inspired by her appreciation for Pocahontas) she was gifted.  It's so cute on her and she loves all of the accessories. And just like that, she's nine.  Nine.  I mean really.  I swear it was just yesterday that she was little like Hannah.  I have to try not to blink--if I do she may be 12 in my next breath.  :-)
Happy birthday spunky girl!  We couldn't be happier that you are here and we've had nine years with you.  Looking forward to many more celebrations, even if I do tease about blinking.  :-) <3 p="">
